A solution to hot food becoming cold on the plate

Dining Stones on Television

December 20th, 2009 by DiningStones

Television RemoteMetro Woman Television

A couple months ago, Dining Stones received an exciting call from one of the associates of Metro Woman television show in Des Moines, Iowa.  The producer of the talk show wanted to feature an episode about women inventors or creators and asked me if I would be interested in being interviewed.  I didn’t have to think very hard about that question … the immediate answer was, “I would be honored!”  The show premise was to get the personal story behind how Dining Stones was established and offer tips for viewers who plan to start a business.   So a date and time was established for the film crew and host to visit the home office.

Decent WeatherButterflies

I was a bit nervous since this is my first experience on television but had to push through it because it is a great way to get the word out about my little business.  I pushed past the butterflies in my stomach that morning they were to arrive and made everything in my little open architecture cabin feel welcoming.  It turned out to be a “decent weather” day for late fall in Iowa.  The sun was shining and the smell of food filled the cabin.  They planned to arrive around noon and wanted to take me to lunch before filming but since we live way out in the country, that wasn’t a possibility.   Serving hors d’ oeuvres on Dining Stones seemed like a nice opportunity to present my product and provide food to the hungry crew.

Metro WomanTam Miligan – Talk Show Host

I saw the SUV pulling up the driveway and tried to greet them with a calm professionalism but inside I was feeling like I just stepped off a roller coaster, overly excited but queasy.  The moment that Tam Milligan shook my hand and smiled, I knew everything would be fine and the fear disappeared.  Tam is co-host of the show and was featuring the segment about Dining Stones while Sonia Walsh, the other co-host, was in a different location taping another portion of the show.

Filming Locations

Front of CabinBill Brown, Executive Producer, organized the shoot in several locations.  The introduction shots were on the front porch and in the yard.  The main shoot was inside the cabin seated at the couch while the final section was shot standing next to the table setting of Dining Stones.   While filming, I decided to just answer Tam’s questions in the same way I would if she had been a typical customer.  This helped me stay calm and clear headed. I couldn’t believe it was over in just a few hours and they were packing up to leave.  It was about as much excitement as I could handle in one day.

Episode Air Date

Dining StonesI learned that editing the show would take a while and air date placement would be in December or January since Metro Woman had a number of holiday-related shows to broadcast.   If you live in Iowa, you can watch the Dining Stones segment on Sunday, January 3rd (this date was changed).  See below for channel and times.  If you are unable to watch the show, I was told it will be uploaded to YouTube after it airs.  I will place a blog entry with a link to it when available.

Deb ChanceWorst Critic

I know when I see myself on the big screen this Sunday that I will be my own worst critic.  Why did I decide to wear that?  I could have said that better!  They lied … television adds more than ten pounds!   Or they didn’t film my best side (is there a best side?)!   Hopefully, the real message about Dining Stones overrides the chatter in my head.
